Traditional Martial Arts Training

From white belt all the way to black belt and beyond, your traditional martial arts training will be based on the Korean martial arts of Hapkido and Taekwondo. Training in both styles enables you to learn taekwondo, which is a linear, “hard” style martial art known for its kicking and hapkido, a circular, “soft” style martial art known for redirecting your opponent’s energy and making extensive use of joint locks, manipulation and throws.

From white to first degree black belt takes around two years for most students who train an average of two days a week. Our structured curriculum can take you all the way up to 4th degree black belt – a journey that to get there from white belt is approximately 15 years long! We have enough techniques, weapons, forms and levels so that you will learn something new every 8 weeks for 15 years – if you are dedicated to it!

Along the way we teach various martial arts weapons. Below black belt we introduce students to nunchakus and sword. At the first degree level the six foot staff is the weapon of focus for approximately two years. Once second degree is achieved, extensive sword training is conducted for approximately three years. From third to fourth degree a variety of additional weapons are introduced including the tonfa, knife, three-section staff, cane, and short sticks. Other weapons such as the sai, kama and butterfly swords are also part of advanced training.
