Children’s Martial Arts

Children join martial arts schools for different reasons. It could be to gain confidence and learn how to deal with bullies as they become proficient at defending themselves. No child should be abused, bullied or live in fear. Children need confidence, discipline, and respect as well as overall health of mind, body and spirit.

There are so many benefits of martial arts training including:
– learning how to protect yourself from others
– gain the confidence to deal with bullies
– discover how to control your fear and remain calm in the face of adversity
– gaining physical, mental, emotional and spiritual strength
– learn fortitude and a never-quit attitude
– develop self-discipline in order to see things through
– increase self-esteem and overall sense of well being
– increase flexibility which is critical for health
– become more respectful – a necessary component for harmony with others
– improve coordination that enhances performance in all sports
– or discover a new way of looking at life based on ancient traditions

Whatever the reason, parents are typically the ones that want to enroll their children, but the motivation behind the desire to enroll a child is not always clear. Martial arts training is not sport. Instructors are not babysitters. We don’t do birthday parties or play games.

We teach martial arts and all the intrinsic values that develop specific life skills in addition to self-defense training. We are not here to act as parents or to necessarily “fix” a problem a parent is having with a child, although we can help to a certain extent.

What we do is teach life skills in addition to self-defense techniques. These are skills that all productive members of society need to have and develop in order to be successful in life. This includes the traits of a warrior that go way beyond physical techniques.

These traits include self-discipline, fortitude, respect, compassion, strength of character, mindset, focus, determination, persistence, courage, balance, motivation, and patience. These are all developed as part of martial arts training, and they are important in all areas of life – at home, at school and at work.
